Adaptive Technology is a broad term often used to describe both the products and services for people with special needs.
It enhances the vocation, recreation, education, and independence of the user.

Why is braille important for the users?

Braille is essential for empowering people who are blind or visually impaired, providing them with equal access to information and opportunities. Here’s why it’s important:

Equal Access in Education: Braille allows students to access the same written materials in the classroom as their sighted peers. It also supports instruction in correct written language usage, including structuring sentences, spelling, formatting paragraphs, and editing.

Accessible Navigation: Braille signage helps visually impaired individuals locate entrances, exits, elevators, staircases, restrooms, and other essential areas in public buildings and facilities.

Beyond Books: Braille is used not only for transcribing books but also on signage in public spaces, such as lift keypads, door signs, restaurant menus, and labeling everyday items like medications.

Accessible Documents: It provides a tactile format for various documents, such as bank statements, ensuring independence and inclusion.

Equality Through Literacy: The ability to read and write braille gives visually impaired people access to the written word, enabling them to experience the same use, power, fluidity, and enjoyment as sighted individuals.

A Universal Tactile Language: Braille, a system of six raised dots forming 63 unique combinations, can be translated into nearly every language.

World Braille Day is an international day on 4 January and celebrates awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people.
